Another update for you guys. I know that I've been a little quiet lately, but work has been progressing.
First, the entire project, from the very build process and infrastructure itself to the default theming is being evaluated and updated. Some packaging options are changing, and new options and features are on the way. I've learned a lot in the past year, and I'm going to use some of that knowledge to improve the project from it's foundation up.
Imagine being able to choose from about 6 different desktop environments. Selecting an iso with your chosen desktop environment, and being able to install that system offline using the Calamares installer. But, if you decided to try a different desktop environment, being able to boot the same iso, use an online installer, and install the system with any of the 6 desktops. Both install options being available on each iso.
More consistent theming, from the default theme to the icon theme.
Support for additional desktop environments.
More consistent packaging between different desktop environments.
A much more robust build process and infrastructure to allow for producing the assorted iso's from one single build repo.
Improved installation option
(Long-term) Updated internal hardware and build server (I'm saving up $)
I refuse to rush the current process and I'm determined to make the next release the best one yet. As such, it will be released when it's ready. However, I would not expect new releases until near the beginning of July.
Finally, I welcome suggestions and feedback as always. This is a distribution created by a community member for the community, and as such you guys are all important to the project! Also, anyone who like to help with the project, please contact me. As things roll along, I'm sure that Karl, Josiah, and I could all use some help. And, those of you who have read this far are probably pretty interested in the project, so I'd like to hear what you think and love for you to contribute any ideas.
